A California native, I have trained in Bharata Natyam, one of the nine classical Indian dance styles, with Guru Viji Prakash since the age of 9. After completing my Arangetram, I have continued to train and perform nationally and internationally with the Shakti Dance Company (Los Angeles) and Jiva Dance Company (New York). Beyond performing, I spend my time producing events and meet-ups across New York City for South Asian artists to practice, create, and share their art.

Ma: an evening of art dedicated to mothers

In May 2018, I curated and organized an arts benefit for Sakhi for South Asian Women. We brought together dancers and visual artists to present art centered around themes of motherhood. Here is a a snapshot of the performances and art exhibited. All proceeds were donated to Sakhi, to further their mission of ending gender-based violence in South Asian communities.

“Back came the four horsemen, swaying ominously, laying the groundwork for the arrival of the black horse, danced with heart rending intensity by Amrita Doshi…Strongly percussive Kathak-style movements highlighted the moments of high anguish. This was yet another powerful performance.”

- Kamini Dandapani, Narthaki
